Dear parents/guardians,

We have wrapped up another amazing school year! I wish you each a wonderful summer vacation, but first I wanted to give you some updates concerning STAAR scores. As you probably know, the STAAR redesign changed testing in a big way this school year with everyone going completely online and the new question types. Due to this, scores are extremely delayed from the previous method of reporting.

Right now, we have preliminary scores with no official pass/fail indicators. We are, however, still required to make plans to remediate students that failed. The guidance we have received from Region 16, our educational service center, has allowed us to take the preliminary scores and determine whether a student likely passed, likely did not pass, or is somewhere in the zone of uncertainty (see attached for chart comparisons to how this is different from previous years). We should have preliminary performance indicators for EOC tests to determine summer testing on May 31st. I will make phone calls for the students who will need to retest in the end of June once we have that information.

Final results with student performance descriptors (did not meet, approaches, meets, and masters) are projected to release on August 8, 2023 for EOCs and August 11, 2023 for 3-8 STAAR. I will mail final STAAR reports once they arrive in August. With that in mind, we will make our remediation plans based on students who were in the “likely did not pass” and “zone of uncertainty” for the next school year and adjusting the plans once we receive final results. This means that schedules will likely change from the beginning of our school year to the beginning of September. Please be patient with us as we make and change plans and schedules. We are at the mercy of TEA!
